![]() ![]() Remove the belt cover mounting bolts and pull off the belt cover. That's the other new belt that I didn't replace, again.Pull off the muffler shroud before reinstalling the engine shroud. What could be causing this?! Could it be the other belt which is not fitting correctly (the one from variable speed pulley to transmission). I have also done a "Speed Control Adjustment" procedure as outlined in the owners manual, since it pertains to the belts. I've also tried to adjust the brake by tightening a bolt on it a bit, and while that did help, for some reason that had the effect of making it nearly impossible to get out of gear. ![]() I figured the no-name brand belt I purchased for the front drive belt was the culprit.maybe it was too tight. ![]() I have to put it in neutral to get it to stop. It seems ever since it will now creep forward or reverse when in gear, with the brake/clutch applied fully. Recently I changed both the front drive belt (engine to variable speed pulley) and the rear drive belt (variable speed pulley to transmission). I have owned a 1998 MTD Yard Machines garden tractor (Model 820) since new. Is it something worth trying? Thanks for any advice you can give. Im pretty mechanical, but havent completely tore down a small engine since high school almost twenty years ago. If it's the valve is it worth bringing the valves somewhere to get them ground down? And what tools would I need to do this. Is that the likely culprit? Or are there other problems that I can check out. Im assuming this is not normal and Im fearing that it's a leaking exhaust valve. Sure enough im seeing blue flame coming through the exhaust port. The bracket connected to the muffler broke off so all the covers and shrouds are real loose the thing is crazy loud too do I planned on replacing that. ![]() I got that freed up and it now moves good. Inside the carb looked good and clean, but outside the throttle linkage was rusty and stuck. Of course now I need it again, I've done some work. Then it didn't snow again and I kinda tucked it away and forgot. I noticed late last year that it wasn't running well, and one night noticed that the muffler was glowing hot. Ive got a Craftsman snowblower with the clasdic Briggs & Stratton 1150 snow series engine. ![]()
